I’m Hank, and this is my healing place.
RODEO BEACH
An avid surfer, paddle-boarder and fisherman, 60-year old Hank Mielke was so fit, he almost
skipped the checkup that saved his life! During Hank’s prostate exam, his doctor found a
suspicious lump. It turned out to be a rare, aggressive prostate tumor. Marin General Hospital’s
multidisciplinary team of prostate cancer specialists worked with Hank to craft a treatment
plan that balanced his personal priorities with cutting-edge care. Hank underwent delicate,
robotic-assisted surgery to remove his prostate, while preserving the nerves needed for
continence and sexual function. The surgery was followed by carefully planned radiation
and hormonal therapy. Hank describes the seamless, collaborative care he received at Marin
General Hospital as “first-class treatment, all the way.” With his cancer in remission, Hank is
out of the woods – and back in the water.
