Marin Home / backstory
The highlight for us was in the layout of the home but we really fell in love with the backyard. It’s a beautiful oasis that is so serene and private.
When Peyman and argavan nilforoush moved to san Francisco from toronto, canada, four years ago, they chose the
hip south of market, or soma, neighborhood.
“It was near all the action,” says argavan, a
pediatric dietitian at children’s hospital and
research center in oakland. another plus: it was
near in Powered, a company Peyman cofounded.
“It was exciting to be in an area that drew
tens of thousands of loyal Giants fans,” she
adds. “We also enjoyed being able to discover
such a beautiful city on foot.”
With their first child on the way, the couple
looked at hundreds of homes for about a year
before they met the realtor team of karen
Plastiras and colleen Fitzpatrick, who quickly
assessed their needs.
“It was important to get them into a child-
friendly neighborhood, a house that would
accommodate a growing family, and introduce
them to the nursery schools, parks and a lot of
what marin has to offer,” Plastiras says. “We
now feel like part of their extended family.”
Within a short time, argavan recalls,
“karen called and said she thought she found
the home we were looking for. the highlight
for us was in the layout of the home but we
really fell in love with the backyard. It’s a
beautiful oasis that is so serene and private.
We could picture a child playing there.”
now, instead of mingling with city crowds,
the nilforoush family finds itself embracing
suburban life. “the neighbors have been so
welcoming and we can’t complain about the
weather,” she says. “coming from canada, we
find it’s wonderful to be able to spend time
outdoors almost year round.”
“We feel so fortunate to live in close proximity
to some of the bay area’s major tourist attrac-
tions. also, friends are always looking for a
reason to come to marin. our home is like a
resort where people can relax, unwind and
enjoy the weather and scenery.” M
the well-maintained, approximately
2,900-square-foot two-story home was on
a fairly flat quarter-acre on a cul-de-sac. It
featured four bedrooms and three bathrooms.
“the master bedroom is very close to a room
that we use as mia’s nursery, and that was very
important to us,” argavan says.
most of the time “we stay local,” she adds.
