On Father’s Day of 2012, Doug McConnell woke up feeling strange. But his dogs were eager to
get out, and they all set out for a walk on Corte Madera Ridge. Unfortunately, Doug’s symptoms
turned out to be something even fresh air couldn’t cure: a stroke. His wife rushed him to Marin
General Hospital – a Certified Stroke Center that delivers advanced, lifesaving care. Doug was
diagnosed with a small clot in his brain, and a tiny hole, associated with stroke risk, in his heart.
Today, with the help of the experts at Marin General Hospital, Doug and his dogs are back on the
trails once more. As the avid outdoorsman puts it, “I went back to the lookout and shouted for joy.”
